Cubs are boys and girls aged between 8 and 10 1/2, and they make up the second section of the Scout Group. The Cub Pack is split into smaller groups called Sixes, each one has a Sixer and a Seconder but to become one of those you have to earn the chance by trying your best to be a good Cub Scout. The Sixes are called Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. We normally have between 25 - 30 Cub Scouts in our Pack.
There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, exploring, archery and kayaking. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform. Even if you don't know any of the others when you start you'll soon have lots of new friends.
Here's what a former Cub, Rachel, thought about Cubs:
We often join up with our Beaver Colony or Scout Troop (or both!), and with Cubs from across the country, for more scouting fun and to help the local community.
If your child is new to scouting one of the “biggest” steps they often face is taking part in the great Nights Away events we offer. These are an important part of scouting so are something we actively encourage, and also consider when looking at what spaces we can later offer to join our Troop. If they have never been to a sleepover at friends and family (without parents (s) and siblings) we do suggest you start to get them doing so before they even join, as it’s good practice for the fun ahead!
Full details for the uniform, and links to on-line ordering sites and local suppliers, can be found here.
