The "pay" of every single adult involved in scouting really is priceless - the look on a child's face as they achieve something they never thought possible, growing in confidence from the Beaver Scout aged 6 to the young adult we try and help them to become. Here is feedback from young people, parents and others about specific events and activities."We would all like to shout a very big " THANKS " to you both for your time and effort organising such a brilliant weekend. We, that is The "Rodriquez" family all had a fantastic time. The highlights for Tom and myself were the ice-climbing wall and that we did not get soaked on the rafting pond (knot training was very handy lol)… Tom realised that he has a good eye for Archery and I scored well on the Rifle Shooting (sorry Mike and Brian hee hee) … so all in all thumbs up from us both. According to Helen, Zack had a great time on the Pedal Cars, the Adventure Playground and walks through the woods watching birds & squirrels. I know Helen thoroughly enjoyed herself on the Cresta Run (albeit dreading the facebook pictures) and, if given the chance again, would have stayed on that all day. Please also pass on our " THANKS " to Mike and Brian for the excellent catering, With such hot conditions and large quantities to cook, we take our cowboy hats off to them" (The Rodriquez Family, Wild West Family Camp, June 2010) "Thanks again Louise and Lynne for a great w/e, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. All your hard work paid off, if was brilliant! 3 are already asleep here, I'm heading that way soon!" (The Hegan Family, Wild West Family Camp, June 2010)"We also wanted to thank you both so much again for all the very hard work you put into organising the family camp – your exceptionally hard work paid off 10 fold as it was a brilliant weekend, enjoyed I’m sure, by all. The children were excellent and so well behaved which was down to the meticulous planning of activities and things to keep them occupied. The adults weren’t bad either! On the basis I didn’t notice anything not being done I assume everyone took their turn at the allotted tasks – certainly seemed that way as there was never a moment when things didn’t seem to be happening when they should (hope that was the case anyway!). The food and catering was of a very high standard so please pass on our thanks again to Mike and Brian – they worked so hard and although they seemed to be enjoying it as well they must have been shattered by the end of Sunday. The menu planned was just right and I’m sure suited most people’s taste and diet. All the facilities on the camp were great so a good choice of venue and not too far – just have to deal with those mozzies next time and all will be perfect! Well done both of you – you deserve a good rest now. " (The Ward Family, Wild West Family Camp, June 2010) "Alison (Hinchingbrooke Ranger) was extremely impressed with the Cubs last night. She told me they were one of the best behaved groups she had seen in a while and she was so pleased so many of the Cubs actually enjoying and showing enthusiasm for the experience. The parent helpers and Young Leaders were also congratulated for doing a wonderful job and actually watching over the Cubs as requested." (Cub Pack at Hinchingbrooke Park, May 2010)"Just wanted to thank you, Anne-Marie and Ken for organising and running the Space Camp despite the difficult weather conditions. Cameron had a brilliant time. he loved all the fun activities you did and he especially loved the food and helping make his meals. Thanks again." (Space Camp, Cubs, May 2010)
"Thank you for a great time at Space Camp. The best thing was the food, I really loved the Domino's Pizzas and the 'Eggy' Bread. I enjoyed blowing the rockets up in the sky and playing British Bulldog. From Josh." (Space Camp, Cubs, May 2010)
"Thanks to all the Cub Leaders and organisers for putting the camp together. Dan really enjoyed it although he seems to have lost his voice which indicates they were all rather vocal!" (Space Camp, Cubs, May 2010)"Thank you to all the leaders & adult helpers who planned, organised & gave up their time for the Cub Space Camp weekend. It is much appreciated when you give the Cubs access to the opportunities & experiences which will always stand them in good stead. Tom had a fantastic time (as always) despite the appalling weather. I think the "be prepared" motto was well tested this weekend." (Space Camp, Cubs May 2010)"I really enjoyed it, I vote every parent has to do one as it really helps you to appreciate the amount of hard work that goes into organising these events. Thank you everybody. x" (from a parent who helped on the Beaver Catering College Sleepover March 2010)"B and I really enjoyed helping last night, and J had had a great time on the walk too, so thank you Lynne!" (Scout Hike and Sleepover March 2010)"L had a great time on the sleepover, he had a really fun night, he needed a few early nights to catch up on his sleep! Thank you for all the hard work you put into Cubs its much appreciated." (Cub Birthday Bash Sleepover Feb 2010)"Just wanted to thank you, Ken, Anne-Marie and the parent helpers for organising and running the Birthday sleepover. B and C had a fantastic time. They haven't stopped talking about all the fun things they did all day. C was a little apprehensive about going to his first sleepover but he was so enthusiastic about it when he came home. " (Cub Birthday Bash Sleepover Feb 2010)"Just to say a huge thank you to all the adults who obviously made last night such a success! Please pass thanks to Akela and Shere Khan too.Trying to persuade J to have a rest!" (Cub Birthday Bash Sleepover Feb 2010)"Just wanted to thank you all for a super Cub party this weekend - the effort you all put in, is very much appreciated. I also wanted to thank you for the phone call that H was unwell, its always a concern of mine, that kids can be left soldier on without due attention from the adults in charge. I very much appreciate your compassion and thank you for your caring attitude. Thanks again for everything you do." (Cub Birthday Bash Sleepover Feb 2010)"What a night! I thought the Cubs were amazing and they seemed to enjoy themselves too! X came home saying that he wanted to cook more and that it was a brilliant night! " (Cub Chef Night 2009)"I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the Cubs and the helpers for a fantastic meal on Tuesday night-I had a lovely time and the food was superb." (Cub Chef Night 2009)"Just thought I'd let you know how much I enjoyed last evening at the Cubs 'around the world buffet'. It was a really great evening. The food was excellent and the cheerfulness and politeness of the Cubs was something to be proud off. I would like to pass on my thanks to all concerned for a truely lovely evening and for a brilliant cause." (Charlie Darling, guest, Cub Chef Night 2009)"I think that all the Cubs and scout helpers were a real credit to you and worked very hard - and made a great team" (Cub Chef Night 2009)"X's Granny has said how much she enjoyed the night, she has praised the Cubs up and said they were all very polite and the food was good with a lot of hard work going into it" (Cub Chef Night 2009)"I took Mr X to see your handywork. He has lived in the village all his life, and is always interested in local history. He said "It's a credit to you all"" (Remembrance 2009)"Please congratulate the young people for their work in putting together the wonderful display that was in the Church for us to see today. One lady, who has lived in the village all her life, said "It was wonderful, magnificent and I was delighted to see it. Well done to you all" " (Remembrance 2009) - the "Open Door" ladies church group "Thank you to you and all the leaders for such a special service, I really enjoyed it. I know you all worked very hard". (Remembrance 2009)"Thank you for all your hard work in organising this event. As you said, it was very successful. Thanks too for asking X to read out his part - he was quite pleased with himself afterwards!" (Remembrance 2009)"We were very proud of them all also, not just because our two took part, but all the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Brownies looked so smart, were well behaved and a credit to the villages of Fenstanton & Hilton – I’m sure as well as the leaders some of the older generation in the village would have been very impressed. It was a very good service - you, Lynne & Brian must have worked extremely ahrd to put it all together - we all know too well that these things don't just "happen", it's a lot of careful planning and hard work so well done and thank you for making it a day we can all be pleased to have been part of". (Remembrance 2009)" Dear Vixen, Thank you for looking after me at Copley, I had a great time. Love C XXX"" X came home really animated about the submarine the size of Wembley (can that be right?) and other such facts. Thanks for showing them such a great time." (this relates to an evening on Remembrance at Cubs, helping them understand why it's an important event to take part in), I've been meaning to thank you and Anne Marie properly for X's camp at the beginning of September. He had a great time, and made it through the evening too! We're always so grateful for the huge amount of time you give so that our boys can have such fun.""He thoroughly enjoyed it last time (water sports at Grafham), as he did the one night camp. Thank you for giving him (and all the others) these fabulous experiences.""Akela & Louise - Thank you very much for a really enjoyable cub camp at the weekend. I had a great time and especially enjoyed being a deputy leader and doing tent inspection! It was really good fun! Jamie""Firstly many thanks to all of the leaders, young leaders & parent helpers who gave up their time to take the Cubs to London, Harry had a fabulous time""Just to say thank you to all involved with 'kip on a ship' and taking care of my son. He had a great experience and I was kept up to date with your web site update and photos."" I really enjoyed the night out on the HMS.I enjoyed every activity (apart from the tiring walking!)It was really good for you to take us there, Matt""Just wanted to say thank you for organising the cubs trip to HMS Belfast! I certainly had a great time! I enjoyed all of the activities (apart from all the walking!) but the best part was sleeping on the ship! from Jamie""George and I would like to say a HUGE thank you to you and your team of leaders, volunteer parents and YLs for such a wonderful trip and experience to HMS Belfast this week. George has obviously had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed his Cub trip to London. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved both on the trip and behind the scenes. Appreciating your time and dedication to Cubs to give George and his Cub-mates this great opportunity"" I would just like to say thank you to all of you who took us to London. I got some absolutely awesome pictures and it was the best experience of my life, my best bit was sleeping on H.M.S. Belfast, it was great fun getting to bed very late!! I wish I could live there!! Next time I think I will try and catch a bus instead of walking! A great BIG thank you to you all. From Josh""Thanks Louise - what a fantastic time they had - Jamie has been full of it since he came home and seems to have learnt loads about HMS Belfast! He so enjoyed the whole experience. I must add my thanks to you and all the leaders giving up their own time to take the Cubs away and giving them the opportunity. As you said - it's amazing what they can do for themselves given the chance - just a shame they don't always remember what they are capable of when they get home!!""Daniel just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in organising kip on a ship. He had an absolutely fantastic time and loved sleeping on H.M.S. Belfast. He was thrilled to see the sights of London and really enjoyed the London Eye. I was most impressed to see that his wash flannel was wet, does this mean he actually used it!!Unbelievable!!Many thanks to all from me as well.""The boys thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the Cub camp from start to finish and were absolutely full of it when they got home. Wanted to go back to London straight away. So a great big thank you to all those involved and gave up their very valuable time to make a lovely trip for the boys. ""Favourite activity was zip wire because I was allowed to do a dive off the platform & High ropes was also great fun"" My best activity was the high ropes because it made you work hard and you had to be brave" "The vertical challenge was my best activity because I was one of the two that managed to get to the top""Giant swing was my best activity because when they took you to the top and you pulled the cord and let go it felt like you were going to crash but you just swung right back up. It was scary but brilliant.""Just a big thank you for giving my child the opportunity to try all these fantastic activities""Just to thank the leaders that took the children and the people that organised it all. A truly great weekend""I wanted to thank you and your team for all the hard work building up to and during the weekend at PGL. He had a fabulous time and kept us all entertained on Sunday evening with details of his achievements. I think he had a very positive experience and I thank you for that"" He was really animated when he got home and has talked about loads since! Thanks for all your tireless efforts and for creating happy memories for our boys"We would just like to say a BIG thank you to all those who helped on the Indiana Jones Cub Sleepover. Both Adam and Justin really enjoyed themselves - it was especially nice for Adam to be awarded the award as he moves up to Scouts after Christmas."He LOVED the observatory and we are all going back tonight to have a look as he wants to show us."I am just writing to thank you, all the other leaders and especially the young leaders for organising such a great camp last weekend. Monty really enjoyed it. He really enjoyed the apprentice type activities, cooking breakfast in the snow and has shown me how to do a clove hitch (one knot I do actually remember). He gave us the fullest description we have ever had from him of what he got up to at camp at Sunday teatime (after having had 2½ hours sleep!). The young leaders must have spent a lot of time on the preparation and it is really appreciated. You should have seen X's face when I gave him the game and told him why he had it - it was a real picture. He says he feels very proud and that he really enjoyed himself. Cubs has given him, amongst other things, real confidence in dealing with adults and people he doesn’t know. A couple of years ago he was very shy and quiet and lacking in confidence so we are really delighted. Thanks for all your work with the cubs."Hi Louise and Lynne (M & Moneypenny) - Just wanted to say once again a big thank you for all your hard work to make this weekend happen. I know how much planning went into it. Please pass on my big thanks to all the other helpers also. Harry and Jack had an absolutely brilliant time and couldn't wait to get on the phone to their Grandparents to let them know what a wonderful experience it had been and all the wonderful things they otherwise would never have had the opportunity to do. It was great to see so many smiling faces and also to see so many willing parent helpers back at the Scout Hut after you had done all your hard work. Kind regards Liz "" Hi Louise, Just wanted to say a huge thank you to yourself and all the leaders etc who made this weekend so much fun for all the beavers, cubs and scouts. Matthew has talked about the whole weekend non-stop, all the things that they did and all the different activities that they were encouraged to do. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and without all of you giving up your free time once again he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do the things he’s achieved. I hope you all had a relaxing afternoon (after you had unpacked of course!) you certainly deserve it. Many thanks once again, Julie and Patrick. P.S. Also glad that we were able to help you pack up camp – it really does prove that many hands make light work!""Dear M & Moneypenny, Thank you very much for letting me come to MI5 boot camp. I had a fab time. It is very hard to decide what was my favourite bit but I think sailing the raft was the best and I even enjoyed falling in the water - although mummy is sure she will never get my shoes & clothes clean again but that doesn't matter. Please say thank you to all the other leaders who were there as well and I can't wait until the next time I go camping with the cubs. Tom""A BIG, BIG, BIG, HUGE thank you for the marvellous weekend our boys enjoyed at Mepal. They have talked non-stop about all the wonderful activities they took part in. Both William and Adam enjoyed having some responsibility and Adam was delighted to have received a special mention. Everything sounded very organised and so much fun. We really do appreciate the hours of hard work you have put in - not only at the weekend but of course, in all the behind the scenes work. The boys meandered into school at 9.15 am as we were unable to rouse them from their beds so much was their need for sleep!! Please pass on our thanks to everyone on the Mepal team!Thank you again. The Sampson Family""The camp was excellent. Jamie thoroughly enjoyed himself and all the activities laid on so well done - it takes such a lot of organising but to see all those happy faces at the end must make it all worthwhile. They were all thoroughly exhausted which shows just how good it was. The Boot Camp badges were great (although he now wants a camp blanket!!) - it was all the little finishing touches you did that made the camp special as well (certificate now laminated and up on the wall). Please pass on my thanks - you all worked so hard.""Thank you all for giving Patrick such a fantastic time, he has only been a Beaver since Easter so I was the worried mum when he said he wanted to go on Boot Camp. Did I need to worry? No!Once he got over being tired he didn't stop talking about what he had done. Badge is sewn on his very own camp blanket, which he takes to bed with him. I think you all deserve a HUGE slap on the back for giving these children an experience to remember. THANK YOU Sam""A big thank you to you and all the other leaders for giving Joe and Ben such a fabulous weekend. We all appreciate the work and time you all give to these events and are very grateful to you. They really did enjoy all their activities and of course the cooking too for Joe. Please could you pass on our thanks. Hope you have recovered now!""Dear Louise, Lynne and all the other leaders at the event, thank you so much for organising this event – Sam really enjoyed it, especially trying out new sports such as shooting and fencing and ‘the most excellent wide games ever like Man Hunt with Take Down’ (whatever that may be!). It’s great that they get to try out new activities that they might not otherwise. It all helps towards developing their confidence and broadening their horizons. By the way, I really liked the 100-year-old poem you read out at the prize-giving ceremony – still very true today.
