News coverage of UK Scouts, with Chief Scout Bear Grylls, in town for the Royal Wedding1st Fenstanton & Hilton Scout GroupFor those who think Scouting's had it's day then we suggest you think again! Every week 80 to 85 boys and girls aged 6 to 14 take part in fun adventure and the adults have a great time too We like the youngsters to experience nights away as often as possible. As well as many other camps and sleepovers in the past year our Beaver Colony went to "Catering College" for a sleepover, our Cubs have enjoyed a "Space Camp" and the Scout Troop took part in their first District Patrol Camp for many years. This year we also took 27 families to a "Wild West" Family Camp. . Past fun has also included our Scouts spending 10 days in Norway, including a week on an island in the Oslo Fjord; Beavers joined our Cubs and Scouts for our MI5 Boot Camp at Mepal in June 2008 and in 2009 our Cubs took part in a week long event called Cub Jam. Our Colony and Pack had a great time at the Gilwell Fun Day in 2010. . Weekly activities have included our Beavers winning a prize in a Garden Show, learning some sign language, making shadow puppets and having a visit from a "mad scientist"; Cubs have learned 1st Aid and about archaelogy, visited the Cromwell Museum, tried some water sports, been to an atheletics club and had a go at toboganning; Scouts have been sharpening their scouting skills so have covered everything from pioneering to fire and orienteering to axe, knife and saw. . As if that wasn't enough we have helped others. All Sections made t-shirts for Operation Smile and helped with projects at our local RSPB Reserve, Cubs became chefs for a night to raise funds for Children in Need and for our 40th Birthday we are aiming to buy a Shelter Box. We have then had our own fundraisers such as bagpacking and Big Breakfast. We also take part in other District and County events for all ages - Handicraft competitions, Beaveree, Sleepovers, St George's Day, Remembrance Day, night hikes, swimming galas... We are a really active Scout Group in Cambridgeshire, and are keen for both adults and children alike to make the most of what Scouting has to offer. We have opportunities for adults to help that range from a few hours a year to a few hours a week so if you could help please just let us know. If you are new to Scouting or would like to make a donation then please can we suggest you start with the "Scout Group" link to the left and visit our Photo Gallery.
