Some of the Scouts went for an exciting weekend climbing Kinder Scout in Derbyshire with the Cromwell Mountaineering Club (CMC):
"On Saturday, we got up bright and early to get ready to go on a walk. Breakfast was lovely and very much filling ready for the walk ahead. Then we packed our day bags and were off. We took the mini bus to a train station where we began our walk. After walking up Kinder Scout for about half an hour, in the sweltering heat our CMC leader(Pete) and Jess decided to let us walk up some of the mountain in the stream. So we took our socks off and tied our shoes to our bags then scrambled up the stream on the mountain for a fair way. It was rocky and sometimes a bit painful but really fun and despite the fact that there were a few cuts and bruises we were all laughing and smiling.
Eventually the stream ended so we had to carry on walking. We got to a cairn where we sat down for a few minutes to eat a snack then carried on. The view was lovely you could see so far around Derbyshire. After that we came to an area of land on the hill where there were lots of high bumps of a material called peat. We ran up and down them jumping off one side and running up the next we had lots of fun. Though did get quite mucky!
Then we came to a place where there was usually a waterfall but it had dried up. What a disappointment! But soon after that we came to the top where there was a huge trig point. The view was equally good up there. We were all exhausted on the way down but still found a bit of energy to run half of the way. On the walk, back we came to a place that was selling ice creams so very kindly Jess brought us each one. We eventually got back to the mini bus. We were only five minutes behind the Explorers! We had a lovely dinner and for the rest of the evening played outside and did whatever we would like.
All in all, a fun and exciting day on Kinder Scout."
